    WHAT HAPPENED?

It was another routine win for the Lionesses as they trounced Italy 5-1 in a friendly on Tuesday afternoon in Spain. Wubben-Moy scored within minutes of the first whistle after she jumped the highest to head home a corner at the near post. It was her maiden international goal and she made the moment even more special with a fun celebration that involved a shake of the hips after going cross-armed.

  • THE EXPLANATION

The celebration was a tribute to an inspirational, deaf England fan, Izzy, whom Wubben-Moy met back in July during England's training camp for the 2023 World Cup. The kid showed off her moves and the Arsenal player promised her that she would celebrate the same way if she scored a goal.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

It was an emphatic win for Sarina Weigman's troops, thanks to a double from Lauren Hemp and a goal apiece for Wubben-Moy, Ella Toone and Rachel Daly. The manager made five changes to the XI that faced Austria as Mary Earps and Chloe Kelly forced their way back into the line-up. It was another convincing Lionesses victory as they ended up having 26 shots with 12 of them on target.

    WHAT NEXT?

Wiegman will be a happy manager as the Lionesses oozed quality in both the friendlies that they played in the February international window. After a 7-2 win over Austria, putting five past Italy is no mean feat. Now the players will shift their focus to club football as WSL resumes this weekend with Manchester City taking on Everton at home. Whereas, Wubben-Moy will be back in action a day later in a north-London derby against Tottenham with the Gunners.
