    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jackson came on as a second-half substitute against Flamengo on Friday in the Blues' second Club World Cup game, but was sent off just four minutes after coming on for an absolutely needless challenge. Flamengo stunned Chelsea 3-1, with Jackson's red card only making matters worse in what was a horrific display from Enzo Maresca's side. It was his second red card in less than two months, after being dismissed for violent conduct at Newcastle. Maresca is reportedly frustrated with the Senegalese's lack of discipline, in addition to his lack of goals. In fact, it has been claimed that Jackson did not offer an apology to his team-mates after being sent off at St. James' Park.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

In May, reports suggested that a number of teams made enquiries for Jackson over his transfer availability this summer. Chelsea, meanwhile, were linked with a five-man striker shortlist and have already secured the services of Liam Delap, who is tipped to replace Jackson as the first-choice number nine in Maresca's XI.

Juventus, who want to sell Dusan Vlahovic and are unsure whether to sign Randal Kolo Muani permanently, have started keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, despite interest in Victor Osimhen. Moreover, Napoli are also said to be monitoring Jackson, but their preference remains to sign one of Darwin Nunez or Udinese sensation Lorenzo Lucca.

    WHAT NEXT FOR JACKSON?

Jackson is set to miss Chelsea's final Club World Cup group stage game against ES Tunis on Wednesday, June 25, with Maresca's troops now needing to win their final game at all costs in order to progress to the round of 16.
